Adoption Policies and Procedures

The Connecticut Parrot Society (CPS) helps residents of Connecticut with the placement of companion birds.
If you need to place your bird, we request that your bird remain with you while we list the bird for adoption
on this Web site and in our newsletter.

We only adopt out to CPS members.
To review our ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES, click here.

TO PLACE YOUR BIRD FOR ADOPTION through CPS, please complete the Relinquishment Form
and mail it to CPS.  A CPS adoption committee member will contact you upon its receipt.

We are not a parrot rescue or sanctuary, thus we cannot accept emergency placement on a regular basis.
Our foster care housing is limited and, if we do not have available foster homes,
we may need to refer emergency placement to other clubs or rescues in the surrounding area.

We are in great need of foster homes for some of the birds that we are receiving into the adoption program.
If you can HELP PROVIDE FOSTER CARE, please complete the
Foster Care Application and mail it to CPS.

TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION of a bird through CPS, please complete the Adoption Application
and mail it, along with a non-refundable application fee of $25.00, to CPS.
Adoption applications will remain on file with CPS for up to six (6) months,
or until a bird is adopted, whichever comes first.

You must be a CPS member for at least 30 days, and be at least 21 years old
in order to be eligible to adopt through CPS.

Questions about the CPS adoption program or any form(s) listed above should be directed to
Comer Wilson, Adoption Chairperson, at tel. 203-605-2835, or by email at Blanc33@comcast.net.
Thank you for your interest!

Isis is a 5 year old, DNA-tested female Blue & Gold Macaw who is with her original owner.

Isis eats ZuPreem pellets and enjoys toys.  She is very sweet around her family, but is nervous around strangers.  The current owner's occupation requires him to be away from home for extended periods, and he feels that Isis needs more consistent attention.

Isis does damage the feathers around her neck, but does not have any other bad habits.  Her cage is included.

Cockatiels, Charlie and Charlete, are thought to be male and female but have not been sexed. They are between 1 - 1 1/2 yrs old and are displaying mating behavior at times. They must be adopted together Charlie is very friendly and was held by a CPS member and his present owner. She is stand-offish and would need some training. They both enjoy out of cage time. Their diet has been Kaytee cockatiel food; they are presently in a small cage, which will come with them. They are in need of immediate foster care or adoption.

Senegal, Missy, is 14 years old.  She does not like being near other birds. Missy is not easily handled; she will step-up on a stick and could be a bit nippy.

Missy will need some work but, with time and patience, has the potential to be a good companion. Missy is fully feathered, sings and whistles, but does not scream.

Missy is in immediate need of foster care and a new home. She is eating a fruit, nut and pellet mix. She comes with a small cage.
